Drive Wise Academy

Services Provided

Based out of South East Iowa and serving all of Iowa:

Our courses cover the fundamentals of driver's education, providing the necessary skills and knowledge to take and pass the driving exam with the IDOT. A minimum of 20 hours of instruction is the standard for new drivers, although we understand that everyone learns at their own pace. If additional hours are needed for your success, it is never an issue. Our ultimate goal is to provide you with the opportunities and skills to become a safe and confident driver.
If you have any reservations about your commitment to learning the skills necessary to become a safe and licensed driver, please address these concerns before enrolling. Being proficient in the safe operation of a motor vehicle is crucial for personal success. You must be prepared for the challenge and fully committed to this opportunity. As each person has different needs, please read through our services to find the ones that best suit your requirements.
Our adult program consists of 20 hours of behind-the-wheel (BTW) instruction. Students will learn one-on-one with their instructor through practical application rather than in a classroom or by watching videos. The BTW experience is intensive, designed to prepare students for the IDOT Drive Test. Each lesson incorporates practice, repetition, and confidence-building.
Not everyone fits into the same criteria for learning or adapting their environment to better serve their needs. Fortunately, our staff are dedicated to implementing the best practices for accommodating students. A physical disability isn't a limitation; it is just another opportunity to overcome. There are multitudes of adaptive equipment and teaching methodologies that can be implemented to foster success. If something isn't working, we make changes until we find something that works for you.
For those with ADHD, anxiety, autism, emotional concerns, executive functioning disorders, mental health conditions, or those in transition, we are here to provide the understanding and support needed for the best possible outcome. When you get your license, you are paving the road for others to follow. Inspiration comes in many shapes, sizes, and forms. Be that inspiration for someone else to take a chance and make a positive difference.
Driving evaluations are often requested by concerned family members, physicians, or caregivers. For inexperienced drivers, this is typically the first step in determining their eligibility for obtaining a license. It also serves as an indicator for those who may have a perceived decline in cognitive or physical abilities.
The driving evaluation is conducted by a neutral third party to assess the cognitive and physical capabilities required for safe vehicle operation.
This assessment is usually administered in the area where the individual resides or frequently visits. Several factors are evaluated, including any contingency plans implemented to ensure their safety and well-being. These factors may include speed limitations, proximity to their residence, permitted driving hours, and a timeline for any additional testing or actions that should occur.
